Montreal
Que April 13th 1943
Dear Fred
Received your last letter just
before we left Tuxford on our Holiday to visit Bob, as you will notice from
above, wife and I are in Montreal. I got no holidays last year so am getting
both last year and this years together which gave me 3 weeks with Bob. We left
Tuxford before your Dad returned home from being married, but understand got
back okay. We are having a nice quiet visit here. Leave for home April 21st.
Montreal sure is some “City” have seen a lot of it but a lot more to see.
Weather had been bad, very late spring after a long hard winter with lots of
snow. Worse winter in many years in Eastern Canada. Snow not all gone yet, but
today seems a little better. Everyone seems so busy here all hustle and bustle
account so much industry. Bob & I was over to the “Forau Rink” to see one
of the final games in the Junior Hockey games “Montreal Canadiana” and “Oshawa
Generals” Oshawa General’s won the series in 3 straight games and now meet the
“Winnipeg Rangers” in the Junior Finals. It certainly was fast hockey. The
Generals seem to me to be real classy. The Army team from Victoria BC won the
western Canada finals and will now play the “Ottawa Commandees” or the Toronto
Flyers in the finals. Nothing new around Tuxford, very quiet and getting
smaller daily. Warren Bogart is now working in Moose Jaw and no doubt you have
heard of Wesley Astleford’s death. Well Freddy we hope you are well. Bob sends
best wished to you, we all wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely Frank A Smith
